  12. I have run into a "bug" which I can't explain.  I recently aquired a Quantum
  13. Grand Prix drive (nice critter) and have been attempting to format it.  My
  14. Fastlane card initially formatted it with:

  16.         22669 Cylinders 7 heads, and 52 blocks per track

  18. According to the specs of the Grand Prix however it has:

  20.         20 heads, 4066 tracks (cylinders?), and 118 sectors per track

  22. Using my fastlane setup, I get r/w errors on my last partition on that drive.
  23. It appears that the "format" of the head/blocks/cylinders execeeds the
  24. capacity of the drive (guess).  When re-configured to the specs of the Grand
  25. Prix (20,4066,118), it works.

  27. The fastlane software however reports that I only have 3564 cylinders NOT the
  28. 4066 as specified in the docs.  I tried formatting the critter using rdprep (a
  29. interesting tool) and had success but it also limited me to 3564 cylinders.

  31. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?  Do I need to do something else?

  33. The Grand Prix also has parity on it.  Do I need or want parity?  I disabled
  34. it and tested it on a partition.  Amigados seems to like a drive immensely
  35. better without parity checking.
